TRISTIN LLEWELLYN EARNS CHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

(GLENDALE, AZ) –The Central Hockey League announced today that Rapid City Rush defenseman Tristin Llewellyn has been named the Oakley Central Hockey League Player of the Week for the period ending October 20, 2013.

In recognition of his achievement, Llewellyn will receive a special gift from Oakley. To learn more about all of Oakley’s products, visit www.oakley.com.

This weekend, Llewellyn played a major factor in both Rush wins, which included a Friday night 2-1 win against last year’s President’s Cup Runner-Up, the Wichita Thunder, and a 6-4 win against the Quad City Mallards on Saturday night. Llewellyn left Wichita with assists on both Jesse Schultz’ game-tying power play goal to end the second period, and Konrad Reeder’s game-Winning%20Goal with less than 5 minutes to go in regulation. He was not done there, as he would not only score a key breakaway goal right out of the penalty box following a game-changing Rapid City penalty kill against the Mallards, but would also assist on two more goals in the contest. In total, Llewellyn now has 5 points to his name (1 goal, 4 assists), and leads the CHL in assists, points, and +/-, with a whopping +6 rating after the weekend’s two contests.

“It was really surprising. I definitely didn’t expect to win the award”, said Llewellyn of being named player of the week. When asked why he was surprised, despite his phenomenal play and stats, he added “Usually someone else in the league snags the award, but nevertheless I am excited and humbled to be named player of the week. At the end of the day though, it wasn’t just my success that propelled us to two wins. We had a lot of key players step up and make great contributions. It tells the league that we’re here, we’re going to be contenders, and we are a force to be reckoned with”.

“Starting on the road is always tough and for Tristin and our team to pick up 2 wins, and to play the way he did for our hockey club is fantastic,” said Rush Head Coach and GM Joe Ferras. “To have the CHL recognize his performance and award him player of the week is well deserved and a great way for Tristin to start the season”.

The former University of Michigan player has played in 52 career CHL games (with Rapid City, Missouri and Fort Wayne) scoring four goals with 14 assists and a +14 plus/minus rating.
