(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush announced today the addition of a new face to the Rush roster for this weekend’s set of games against the Arizona Sundogs. Suiting up for the Rush will be defenseman Sean Erickson, who will bolster an already stellar group of Rush blue-liners.

Most recently, Erickson played in the EIHL in the United Kingdom, playing for the Coventry Blaze in England. In 17 games played, he scored one goal and helped out eight times for a total of nine points. He also spent 28 minutes in the penalty box for the Blaze.

“We’ve played against Sean the past few years when he was a member of the Tulsa Oilers”, said Rush Head Coach and GM Joe Ferras. “He was someone we tried to key on when we played against him. When he became a free agent and went to the EIHL this summer in Europe we kept in contact. Unfortunately things didn’t work out over there and when the opportunity arose for him to come to Rapid City we were very happy to have him”. When asked about how he could contribute to the team, Ferras added: “Sean brings a lot of skill and great skating ability to the blue line for us. He has a tremendous offensive upside and will help out immensely on our special teams unit, especially the power play. We’re very excited to have him wearing a Rush uniform”.

“I’ve played here a lot in the past with the Tulsa Oilers,” said Erickson of his familiarity with the Rush and the Black Hills. “Everything I’ve heard about this organization has been first class, and so far I’ve seen exactly that. I’m excited for tomorrow night and for playing in front of these fans. It was always fun coming here to play because it’s always been a packed house, and the fans are rowdy and loud, so it will be a great time playing tomorrow night”.

From Eden Prarie, Minnesota, Erickson has spent 245 games in the CHL in his now five year career, all with the Tulsa Oilers. Over his CHL career, he has scored 39 goals and recorded 89 assists, for a total of 128 points. He played collegiately at University of Connecticut, where he played alongside current Rush defenseman Ryan Palmer for a season, and former Rush defenseman Jordan Behler for the majority of his college career.
