AUSTIN MAYER JOINS RUSH FAMILY

(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush are pleased to announce the arrival of a new player to the Rush family. New Rush forward Austin Mayer will don a red R starting this weekend, as he makes the trip with the team to face the defending CHL champions, the Allen Americans.

Mayer, 25, comes from Providence, Rhode Island, and spent two years as a Providence Friar in the NCAA ranks. He later transferred to play at Colgate University, also in the NCAA, where he spent his remaining two years of college. Professionally, Mayer played his rookie season in the CHL with the Fort Worth Brahmas, where he would tally 13 goals and 24 assists for 37 points. He played in three games this season with the Bakersfield Condors and the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL before coming to the Black Hills.

“We are really excited to have Austin here joining the Rush”, said Head Coach and GM Joe Ferras. “When you can get a person that had a tremendous season last year with the Fort Worth Brahmas and a guy that had a tremendous college career, it’s too good of an opportunity to pass on. Austin is familiar with our organization and how things are run first class here in Rapid City. He’s great on the PK, has tremendous speed, and plays with grit, and he’ll showcase that for the Rush fans in Allen this weekend”.

“It’s great to be here. I know this is an awesome organization, a great city and place to play”, said Mayer on being a part of the Rush organization. When asked about what he is most looking forward to, Mayer added “It’s not much fun to play here as a visiting player, having come here with the Brahmas last season, so having these great fans on my side will definitely be a welcomed change”.
