(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush is pleased to announce the acquisition of second-year forward Nick McParland. McParland comes to the Rush by virtue of a trade with the Elmira Jackals for future considerations.
“We were able to see Nick in Wichita last season, and he was a player that we were very impressed with,” said Head coach and GM Joe Ferras. “Nick will add size and speed to our forward lines and be a great threat offensively. He was a teammate with Daniel Barczuk and Steve Kaunisto at Lake Superior State, and had a very good college career. We are always looking to get younger, quicker and bigger, and adding Nick brings all three of these to our line-up.”
McParland, 27, begins his second year of professional hockey, and his second stint in the ECHL. The 6’1”, 201-pound native of Schreiber, Ontario, played 51 games as a rookie with the Wichita Thunder last year, potting 7 goals with 16 assists for 23 points, which tied for 12th among CHL rookies. Before becoming a professional, McParland spent four seasons in the NCAA with Lake Superior State University, suiting up for 142 games while racking up 29 goals and 37 assists for 66 points. At the conclusion of his collegiate career in the 2012-13 season, he played in 8 games with the Orlando Solar Bears as an amateur, recording 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points. He will not play this weekend against the Mallards, but will join the Rush on Monday.
