(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush announced today the acquisition of Jean-Michel Rizk to a Standard Player Contract (SPC).
“JM is a big strong kid and will give us strength down the middle that can be used in all situations,” said Rush Head coach and GM Joe Ferras. “JM is a player that plays in both ends of the rink, brings leadership, and knows what it takes to win. He is a welcomed addition to our hockey club.”
Rizk, a native of New Liskeard, Ontario, enters his third season of professional hockey, and his second in the ECHL. Last season, Rizk only played 23 games and contributed 6 points before suffering a season-ending injury. In his first season in the ECHL, he was rewarded with his first call-up to the AHL to skate with the Norfolk Admirals and appeared in 5 games.
As a rookie, Rizk helped Fort Wayne secure their final CHL Ray Miron President’s Cup championship, contributing 14 points in 18 playoff games. The 6'1", 201-pound forward is 4 games away from 100 in his ECHL career, scoring 21 goals and recording 19 assists for 40 points, and has 71 points in 151 career games across the AHL, ECHL, and CHL. Prior to playing professionally, Rizk played at Wilfried-Laurier University in the CIS, and spent time in the OHL with the Saginaw Spirit and the Kitchener Rangers. In 2004, Rizk was drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the 7th round of the NHL Entry Draft (#195).
