(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush has announced recent player transactions that took place earlier today. Defenseman Brandon Martell has been traded to Evansville as the conclusion of the prior trade for Dylan Clarke for future considerations, and defenseman Jeremy Gates has been signed to a Standard Player Contract (SPC).
“When you make trades to acquire players the likes of Dylan Clarke you understand you will be giving up quality players as a result,” said Rush Head coach and GM Joe Ferras. “We wish Marty the best in Evansville and we are excited to sign Jeremy Gates today and add him to our d-corps.”
Gates comes to the Rush organization after playing in the SPHL with the Pensacola Ice Flyers. In 15 games in the Florida panhandle, Gates notched 2 goals and 7 assists for 9 points, and earned a +6 rating. The third year professional out of Jackson, MI spent parts of the last three seasons with the Ice Flyers, winning back-to-back SPHL President’s Cup championships in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. In addition to his stellar play at the SPHL level, Gates has spent time in the ECHL with the Fort Wayne Komets, playing 48 games in the “Hoosier State”, while recording 2 goals and 8 assists for 10 points.
With regards to Gates, Ferras added: “Jeremy is a big body that brings a physical game as well as a player that has a great compete level and these are two elements that we have been looking to improve on.”
Prior to playing professionally, the 6’4”, 201-pound defenseman played with the Neumann University Knights in the NCAA Division III ranks, recording 33 points in 59 games with his alma mater over three seasons.
