KEVIN HARVEY RETURNS TO THE RUSH FROM EVANSVILLE

(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush announced another transaction with the Evansville Icemen, the second time within the past two weeks that both teams have engaged in a trade. Kevin Harvey comes back to the Black Hills for the third time in his career from Evansville in a trade for future considerations.

“It feels great to be wearing a Rush jersey again,” said Kevin Harvey on his third stint with the Rapid City Rush. “I’m ready to come do what’s asked of me, work hard, and entertain the great fans of the Rush.”

“We’re very familiar with Kevin, having him here twice before with the Rush,” said Rush Head Coach and GM Joe Ferras. “Kevin has a ton of experience in the ECHL, as well as the AHL, and brings the physical prowess of a heavyweight to our lineup. In addition to his physical contributions, he is great on the penalty kill, finishes all of his checks, and he will be a valuable asset in the locker room with the young kids we have as well.”

Harvey comes to the Rush after spending this season with the Evansville Icemen, recording 18 points (7 g, 11 ast) in 41 games played. He leaves the Evansville roster as their leader in PIM with 185, sufficient enough for second-highest total in the entire ECHL. Additionally, Harvey is tied for the ECHL-lead with 17 major penalties to his name.

“A big part of bringing Kevin into our lineup is that the last 30 games of the season against our divisional opponents will be very physical battles, especially in a time where every point is so vital in the standings,” Ferras continued. “We know that with Kevin in the lineup we won’t be pushed around, and when we were given the opportunity to acquire Kevin we couldn’t pass it up.”

A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Harvey, 30, is now in his ninth year as a professional hockey player. He played junior hockey in multiple locations in the OHL and OPJHL before his pro career started with the now defunct New Mexico Scorpions in the CHL. As a pro, Harvey has played at least 100 games in almost each North American minor hockey league, including 173 in the CHL with New Mexico and Rapid City, 110 in the ECHL with the Reading Royals, Toledo Walleye, Elmira Jackals, and most recently Evansville, and 126 in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch and the Springfield Falcons. In the 2003 NHL Draft, the Calgary Flames selected Harvey as the 270th overall pick in the 9th round.
