POMMELLS RETURNS TO RUSH FOR FIRST FULL ROOKIE SEASON

(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush announced today the signing of rookie forward Spencer Pommells for the 2015-16 ECHL season. Pommells becomes the third forward signed this offseason, joining Scott Brannon and Daniel Barczuk.

“I’m very excited to be back in Rapid City. I want to thank the coaches for this opportunity to really start my pro career,” Pommells spoke of his return to the Black Hills. “I’m very happy that I ended up in Rapid City and am enthusiastic about what is to come for next season.”

Prior to turning professional, Pommells, a 25-year old native of Grande Prairie, Alberta, played at the University of Windsor, tabulating 140 points in 108 games played. After finishing his senior year, where he logged a career best 50 points (16 G, 34 Ast) in 27 games, he joined the Florida Everblades for 10 games, notching his first 3 points (2 G, Ast) as a professional hockey player. After making his way to the Rush just prior to the start of the playoffs, the 5’10”, 180-pound forward played in 4 playoff games, scoring in his Rush debut just 1:51 into Game 2 against the Quad City Mallards, contributing to a 3-2 win.

Pommells added on his return to the Rush organization. “My biggest thing last season was the confidence I received from the coaches. It allowed me to just play my game and contribute immediately. This next season, I look forward to not only maintaining confidence I gained during the playoffs, but earning even more so that I can remain in the lineup and help this team the best I can every night.”

“We acquired Spencer last year heading into the playoffs after he completed a tremendous career at the University of Windsor, leaving as the leading scorer in the nation in Canadian university hockey,” said Rush Head Coach and GM Joe Ferras. “He has a tremendous offensive skill set, great poise with the puck, and is a player that has a ‘shoot-first’ mentality. Getting the experience of coming into pro hockey at a crucial time of the year gives him an entire summer to prepare mentally and physically for his first full professional season.”
