(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes and Springfield Falcons, announced today that the organization has traded future considerations for veteran defenseman Sean Erickson.
“Whenever you have the opportunity to add veteran leadership, it’s always a great move. Sean is a proven leader and a versatile defenseman, and when he became available we jumped at the opportunity to add him to our hockey club. He has a great compete level, and is an outstanding skater. In this new division, we feel speed will be critical, and Sean can provide that for us on the back-end,” said Rush Head Coach and GM, Joe Ferras.
Erickson returns to the Rush after playing for the organization for parts of the last two seasons in the Black Hills. The 6’0”, 195-pound blue-liner has played in 126 games in a Rush uniform, and in that time has recorded 17 goals, 58 assists, and 75 points, while logging an all-time plus/minus rating of +12. At the conclusion of last season, he returned to the Tulsa Oilers, where he began his 7-year career, and played in their final two regular season games and all five of their playoff games, notching 1 goal in the postseason.
Originally from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Erickson, 31, has played in 374 games in the CHL and ECHL, and racked up 203 points (56 G, 147 Ast) for an average of 0.54 points-per-game. Prior to turning pro, the 2010 CHL All-Rookie defenseman played four seasons and 121 games with his alma mater, the University of Connecticut, in the NCAA.
