(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes, announced today that defenseman Taylor Doherty has been re-called by the Toronto Marlies, the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs.
Head Coach Mark DeSantis on the re-call: “This is a great opportunity for Taylor. His ice time in Rapid City has given him the confidence to know that he can once again play at the American Hockey League level.”
Doherty leaves the Rush as the team’s leading scorer among defenseman. The 6’7”, 255-pound blue-liner registered 8 goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 56 games this season. The vast majority of the Cambridge, Ontario native’s career has been spent in the AHL with the former Worcester Sharks, where he amassed 234 games over the course of four seasons. Prior to playing professionally, Doherty played his major-junior hockey with the Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL, and was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the 2009 NHL Draft (2nd Rd-#57).
