(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes, are excited to announce that Head Equipment Manager Eric Bechtol has earned his call up to the American Hockey League to work with the Tucson Roadrunners in the same capacity.
Bechtol joined the Rush organization after coming from the DEL in Germany with the Nuremberg Ice Tigers. A veteran of 21 seasons as an Equipment Manager in professional hockey, Bechtol achieved a major career milestone when he served his 1,500th game in that capacity on March 18, 2016 on the road as the Rush played the Idaho Steelheads. For over a decade, the Kalamazoo, Michigan native served in the same role with his hometown Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL, and worked with the team during their days in the IHL and UHL as well, watching his team capture the UHL’s Colonial Cup Championship in 2006. Of his 21 seasons as an “EQ”, 9 have come as an Assistant Equipment Manager with the NHL’s St. Louis Blues. Bechtol is a two-time All-Star Equipment Manager, first managing the equipment of the NHL’s North American All-Stars in the 2001 NHL All-Star Game in Denver, and as the manager of the ECHL All-Star Team that squared off against the host Bakersfield Condors in the 2011 ECHL All-Star Game.
From all of us with the Rapid City Rush organization, we’d like to extend our gratitude to Eric for all of his hard work and dedication to our team and our players, and wish him the very best in the AHL!
