(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes, announced today that, in conjunction with our “Pink at the Rink” festivities, select Rush players will shave their heads to honor those who have fought, and those fighting breast cancer. The shaving will put an exclamation point to our 9th Annual “Pink at the Rink” efforts to fight breast cancer on Monday, February 13th, at noon at Great Clips on West Main. Great Clips has been a long-time sponsor of the Rush organization, and now teams up with the Rush for a fifth year to shave the player’s heads.
“I believe this is the 5th year that we have hosted the head shaving event at Great Clips, and it means more every year. Our Great Clips family has lost family, friends and customers to this nasty disease over these five years,” said Leslie Valega, Franchisee and Operations Manager with Great Clips. “Personally, I lost my dad to cancer two years ago just weeks before this event. And this year, one of our own stylists, Michele, is in the fight of her life with stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. So this year is for Michele. She is our inspiration. Maybe now will be the time we find a better treatment or better yet, find a cure!”
One of the most important traditions of “Pink at the Rink” every season is the head-shaving at Great Clips. If the Rush raise $10,000 in the arena during tonight’s game, then Assistant Coach Daniel Tetrault and 8 Rush players will get their heads shaved in solidarity with those that are battling, those who have battled and survived, and those who have unfortunately lost their lives to cancer.
Below is a list of Rush players getting their heads shaved if the $10,000 goal is met:
-Anthony Mastrodicasa
-Nick Miglio
-Nick Walters
-Alex Mikulovich
-Ryan Walters
-Dysin Mayo
-Mark Cooper
-Hunter Fejes
-Assistant Coach Daniel Tetrault
Come out for our 9th Annual “Pink at the Rink” showdown against the Allen Americans TONIGHT, at 7:05 p.m. MST!
