(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes, concluded their “Rush 4 Ca$h” festivities from last weekend by reading to local Rapid City Area Schools as part of their “Rush to Read” initiative on Monday, March 6th.
For a second straight year, the Rapid City Rush and First Interstate Bank teamed up to help area elementary schools on March 3rd with the “Rush 4 Ca$h” first intermission contest. Over 300 teachers were in attendance at last Friday’s game against the Idaho Steelheads to celebrate the occasion. Fifteen teachers from RCAS schools jumped around in a pile of cash donated by First Interstate Bank to collect as much as they could for their respective schools. The top five teachers and their earnings were:
1. Caleb Chapman, $878 for South Canyon Elementary,
2. Shaina Stover, $535 for Corral Drive Elementary
3. Stacy Anderson, $402 for Knollwood Heights Elementary
4. Nicole Schartz, $398 for General Beadle Elementary
5. Jamie Jungck, $360 for Meadowbrook Elementary
To close out the event, the Rush players visited eight different RCAS schools and read to students as part of their “Rush to Read” initiative. Students from South Canyon Elementary, Pinedale Elementary, Wilson Elementary, Robbinsdale Elementary, Horace Mann Elementary, Blackhawk Elementary, Meadowbrook Elementary, and General Beadle Elementary got to meet Rush players this past Monday and ask questions about hockey and their experiences in school, while the Rush players not only read books to the students, but also stressed the importance of working hard in earning their education.
The Rapid City Rush would like to thank all of the RCAS schools that participated in our “Rush to Read” initiative, to all the schools that participated in “Rush 4 Ca$h” last weekend, and to First Interstate Bank, and long-time and loyal Corporate Partner of the Rush organization, for making our success in these events possible!
