(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, announced today that veteran forward Garrett Klotz has been signed by the team and is expected to make his Rush debut tonight against the arch rival Colorado Eagles. He will wear #5.
Klotz makes Rapid City his fourth stop this season, having recently played with the Quad City Mallards, Jacksonville IceMen, and Kansas City Mavericks. The 6’5”, 235-pound forward began the season with the Mallards, appearing in 11 games and registering 26 PIM before playing in another 15 games with the IceMen, where he added an assist and 57 PIM. Most recently, he played in a trio of games with the Mavericks, adding another assist and 14 PIM. In total, tonight will be his 30th game of the season, and he has a pair of assists and 97 PIM to his credit.
A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Klotz is in his 10th season as a professional. In his decade-long career, Klotz has played all over the landscape of professional hockey, appearing in 459 games in the AHL, ECHL, CHL, and EIHL, compiling totals of 30 goals, 45 assists, 75 points, and 1,060 PIM. In the 2013-14 CHL season, Klotz suited up with his current Head Coach, Daniel Tetrault, and captured the final Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup Championship in league history as his teammate. Prior to playing professionally, Klotz played over 100 games in three seasons of WHL hockey with the Red Deer Rebels and Saskatoon Blades, and was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2007 NHL Draft (3rd Rd-#66)
The Rush continue their busy week of hockey with a “three-in-three” two different cities. The rally continues tonight, March 9th, as the Rush host the archrival Colorado Eagles for their final series ever with the Eagles moving to the AHL next season. Puck drop at Premier Home Mortgage Ice in Rushmore Plaza Civic Center is slated for 7:05 p.m. MST.
