LAST TIME OUT: Logan Nelson had two assists and Daniil Chechelev made 29 saves on 32 shots but the Rush were beaten by the Allen Americans 3-2 on Saturday night at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center. Allen’s Hank Crone recorded a hat trick and scored all three of the Americans’ goals in their win.
MR. 300: Logan Nelson’s assist on Colton Leiter’s first period goal on Saturday was his 300th career ECHL point. Nelson finished the game with two assists and over 435 career games in the ECHL has 117 goals and 184 assists.
DO THE ROSTER SHUFFLE: Over the last week, the Rush have placed defenseman and captain Kenton Helgesen on injured reserve, had defenseman Tyson Helgesen and forward Calder Brooks called up to the AHL Calgary Wranglers, had goaltender Daniil Chechelev assigned by the Wranglers, released goaltender Nicholas Latinovich and signed defensemen Charles Martin and Alex Carlson. Helgesen appeared in Calgary’s 6-5 shootout victory on Saturday night and did not record a point but was +1. Carlson returns to the Rush for his second stint with the team. He had played seven games for Rapid City in January and in the interim was in the SPHL with the Quad City Storm. Martin made his pro debut on Saturday night. He was signed following the completion of his college career at University of Wisconsin-Superior. During his senior season in 2022-23, he had three goals and 15 assists in 28 games.
LEADING THE WAY FOR ALLEN: Allen has both the reigning ECHL Player of the Month and ECHL Rookie of the Month on its roster. Hank Crone was named player of the month after scoring 11 goals along with 13 assists in 12 games in February. Liam Finlay earned rookie of the month honors with eight goals and 13 assists in 12 games.
ON THE ROAD: Rapid City will play the fifth of five-consecutive road games on Sunday afternoon. The Rush are 2-2-0-0 on the road swing and 10-18-1-0 on the road this season. Rapid City’s loss on Saturday snapped an eight-game winning streak at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center.
ODDS AND ENDS: The Rush are 2-2-0-0 on Sundays during the 2022-23 season...Sunday is the final regular season game in Allen for the Rush this season...Matt Marcinew has goals in three consecutive games. He leads the Rush with 24 goals on the season and leads the team in the season series with Allen with three goals and five assists in four games.
UP NEXT: The Rush will return home to play their next six games at The Monument Ice Arena. The first of those six games is on Thursday afternoon against the Wichita Thunder and puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
