GAME RECAP: Rush Defeat Wichita in Wire-to-Wire Effort

(RAPID CITY, S.D.)—The Rapid City Rush ended their homestand with a 5-2 victory over the Wichita Thunder at The Monument Ice Arena on Sunday.

After falling behind for the majority of the first two games—despite playing well enough to win—the Rush scored on the opening shift when Blake Bennett buried just 35 seconds into the game. Bennett added a second goal three minutes later to give Rapid City an instant 2-0 lead.

Billy Constantinou scored late in the first period, Parker Bowman added one in the second, and David Gagnon finished out the scoring in the third for the Rush.

The Thunder scored both of their goals on the power play. Rapid City’s defense shut out Wichita at 5-on-5 and allowed just nine shots in each of the three periods. The Rush outshot the Thunder for the third straight game, 39-27.

Deni Goure, Ryan Wagner, and Chaz Smedsrud collected two assists each. Constantinou finished with two points. Garrett Klotz added an assist as well.

Matt Radomsky stopped 25 out of 27, including some dandies, and earned his team-leading 12th win of the season. Trevor Gorsuch made 34 saves in the loss.

While Wichita won the series, the Rush still clinched a winning homestand, finishing with a record of 4-2.

Rapid City has surpassed last year’s point total (64) after picking up their 64th and 65th points today. The Rush already have more home wins than they did all of last season.

The Rush trail their next opponent, the Tulsa Oilers, by 11 points with nine games remaining. The Oilers hold the final playoff spot at the moment. Rapid City travels to Tulsa for a three-game series beginning on Thursday.

Next game: Thursday, March 27 at Tulsa. 7:05 p.m. CDT puck drop from the BOK Center.

The Rapid City Rush take on the Utah Grizzlies in the final home series of the regular season on April 9th, 11th, and 12th at The Monument Ice Arena.
