(RAPID CITY, S.D.)—The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Calgary Flames, announced Thursday, in an Active Life Chiropractic roster adjustment, the club has acquired the ECHL rights to Alex Young from the Atlanta Gladiators in exchange for future considerations.
Young, 25, has signed an AHL/ECHL contract with the American Hockey League’s Calgary Wranglers for the 2026-27 season.
One of the most dangerous goal scorers in the league last year, Young led the Gladiators with 59 points (27g+32a) while playing in all 72 games. He finished tied for 15th in the ECHL with 27 goals, while his nine power play goals were tied for 12th. Young recorded seven multi-goal games in 2025-26, including a hat trick on February 24th against Savannah.
In two professional seasons, the Calgary, Alberta native has totaled 97 points (42g+55a) in 133 games between Adirondack and Atlanta. He has also skated in 15 Kelly Cup Playoff games.
Young was a seventh-round draft pick of the San Jose Sharks in 2020. He played collegiately for three years at Colgate University, where he led the Raiders in scoring as a junior, then Arizona State University for his senior year.
