DAY CHIEF GARNERS CHL THREE STAR HONORS

(GLENDALE, AZ) – The Rapid City Rush, building further upon their outstanding season, have once again come across CHL headlines. Today, the Central Hockey League office released the Oakley Three Stars of the Month of December, and included in the trio of stellar players was none other than Rush forward Winston Day Chief.

Players are awarded five points for being a game’s first star, three points for being named the second star and a single point for being named the third star of the game. Keep up with the season-long standings and quest to be the Oakley Three Star Player of the Year at www.centralhockeyleague.com. Winston Day Chief earned Third Star of the Month honors, receiving 13 points.

Day Chief spent the first half of the month on Injured Reserve, but came back storming out of the gates in dominant fashion. The very next night after going pointless in his first game back off the IR, Day Chief registered a career-high 4-point night, tying a career-high single game performance with 2 goals, and setting a career-high single game performance with 2 assists. He maintained his high level of play throughout the remainder of the 2013 year, recording a point in five straight games to close out December, scoring 7 goals and adding 5 assists for 12 points.

Despite missing time on the IR this season, Day Chief has solidified himself as a first-line player. In his 19 games played this season, he has scored 13 goals and recorded 10 assists for 23 points, averaging 1.21 points per game. Among his season highlights is his first professional hat-trick, scored on New Years Eve against the St. Charles Chill, which helped tie and win the game with 57.9 seconds left in regulation.

Hailing from Standoff, Alberta, the 6’1” 190 lb second year forward has played in 56 games with the Rapid City Rush, where he has become a key factor in front of the net offensively. In his time in the Black Hills, Day Chief has 22 goals and assists to his name for 44 points in a Rush uniform. Before coming to the Mt. Rushmore State, Day Chief played collegiately at the University of Lethbridge in Canada’s CIS system, playing in 68 games for the Pronghorns.
