RUSH PLAYOFF PRIMER: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

(RAPID CITY, SD) – For the fifth consecutive year, the Rapid City Rush earned a spot in the playoff field to battle for the Ray Miron President’s Cup Championship. The first round is quickly approaching, so with that in mind, here’s everything you need to know about the opening round:

The Opponent: The Quad City Mallards

Rank: 5th

Record: 33-23-10, 76 Points

This could be the closest and most entertaining series of the first round, given how close the matchup is in the CHL playoff bracket. The 4-seed/5-seed showdown features the Rush and the Mallards picking up from where they left off after the conclusion of their head-to-head set. Both teams finished their regular season series with 3-2-1 records, a dead-even split down the middle. Each game was extremely tight, with only one game decided by more than two goals. Power play goals came at a premium for either side, as only two goals on the man-advantage were scored in the entire set, both of them coming from the Mallards. The goaltending matchup showcases two of the best goaltenders in the CHL in All-Rookie goaltender Ty Rimmer for the Mallards, and 30-win goaltender and Goaltender of the Year finalist Tim Boron for the Rush.
