(GLENDALE, AZ) – The Central Hockey League announced the schedule for the upcoming 2014-15 CHL season.
“With all of the elite players that have flooded the free-agent market, the parity in this league will be second to none,” said Head Coach and GM of the Rush, Joe Ferras. “Having the schedule released today, and seeing that it is the most balanced it has been in the Central Hockey League in several years, every game will foster a playoff atmosphere and have our fans on the edge of their seats on a nightly basis.”
The Rush will open the season on the road in the Quad Cities on October 24th, as they take on their playoff opponents from last season, the Quad City Mallards. The home opener at Premiere Home Mortgage Ice in Rushmore Plaza Civic Center is tabbed for that next Friday, Halloween night, October 31st against the two-time defending champion Allen Americans.
The schedule breakdown sees the Rush playing the Missouri Mavericks 14 times, with an even split of 7 home and 7 road contests, and the remainder of the teams 9, 10, and 12 times, to have the most balanced schedule created by the CHL offices.
The breakdown is in the chart below.
Opponents | # of Matchups | # of Home Matchups | # of Road Matchups |
Missouri Mavericks | 14 | 7 | 7 |
Quad City Mallards | 12 | 6 | 6 |
Brampton Beast | 12 | 6 | 6 |
Wichita Thunder | 10 | 4 | 6 |
Tulsa Oilers | 9 | 5 | 4 |
Allen Americans | 9 | 5 | 4 |
The longest road trip for the Rush this season is much earlier than in previous seasons. They will travel to Brampton to take on the Beast on November 14th, 16th, and 17th, and then travel to the Quad Cities to take on the Mallards for two contests on November 21st and 22nd, before returning home to the friendly confines of Rushmore Plaza Civic Center for a five-game home stand.
There is only one “three-in-three” stretch this season as opposed to two last year, where the Rush will play three games in three consecutive nights. They will play the Quad City Mallards twice, with a Missouri Mavericks matchup sandwiched in the middle, all on the road, from January 16th to the 18th.
As per usual, the bulk of the 66-game regular season will be played in Friday/Saturday sets, with 44 games played on those days. The Rush has secured their annual three-game set during the Thanksgiving holidays (Nov 26th, 28th, and 29th vs the Brampton Beast), as well as their post-Christmas set on December 26th and 27th vs the Missouri Mavericks. The Rush will finish the final three games of the season at home, playing the Mavericks on April 1st in their first ever April Fool’s Day game, and concluding the regular season against the Mallards on Friday, April 3rd and Saturday, April 4th.
Prior to the regular season, the Rush will re-visit a fierce, former CHL rivalry and take on the ECHL’s Colorado Eagles in a home-and-home set on October 15th and 16th. Don’t forget to come out and watch as new Rush hopefuls vie for a chance to be a member of the 2014-15 Rush opening night roster. Tickets cost $15 per seat, and go on sale at 10 AM on September 22nd. All full season ticket holders may attend for free.
