“Being accepted into the ECHL as late as we were for the 14-15 season, it was very difficult to make any adjustments to the schedule,” said Rush Head Coach and GM Joe Ferras. “The diligence of the ECHL, coupled with our outstanding relationship with Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, has allowed us to prepare the 2015-16 ECHL schedule for the last 8 weeks. This relationship has allowed us to construct the best schedule in all facets for our loyal fan base and community of Rapid City.
“There will be several firsts for the Rush organization, including 3 Sunday home games, our first afternoon home game, two road trips to Alaska consisting of six away games, and the most Friday and Saturday games in Rush history, with 27 games being played on those days,” continued Ferras. “We’re extremely excited for our fans that schedule has become available this early to make plans to come out to Premier Home Mortgage Ice in Rushmore Plaza Civic Center and watch the Rush compete against fellow member teams representing the highest level of ‘AA’ hockey.”
The Rush begin the season on the road against their new West Division rivals, the Idaho Steelheads, before returning to the Black Hills to open up the home schedule of play. The home opener, slated for October 23rd against their long-time rivals, the Colorado Eagles, is one of four “home-and-home” sets that the Rush and Eagles will play in. The Rush will play a 2 p.m. game for the first time in franchise history on Halloween against another of their newest division rivals, the Alaska Aces.
November holds one of the two six-game home stands the Rush have this season, with the second one coming in March. Additionally, the Rush play 10 games in November, with 8 of them taking place at home. Conversely, December houses 10 games, with 6 being on the road, including a “three-in-three” in the team’s first-ever trip to Alaska. For the first time in three seasons, the Rush are ecstatic to host a New Year’s Eve game, which will be played against the Tulsa Oilers.
27 of the team’s 72 games will be played in the months of January and February, with a season-high 14 games coming in February alone. The bridge between January and February contains a seven-game road swing, the longest of the season, during the annual Stock Show Break, and sees the Rush make trips to Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Quad City, and for the first time in four seasons, Evansville.
46 of the Rush’s 72 games will be played against West Division opponents, while 18 games will be played against the Rush’s old Central Division rivals in the Allen Americans, the Tulsa Oilers, the Wichita Thunder, the Quad City Mallards, and the Missouri Mavericks. The remaining 8 games will be played against Eastern Conference teams, including a fierce rival in the Fort Wayne Komets Two trips will be made to visit the Alaska Aces: one before Christmas (12/18-12/20), and one to close out March (3/24-3/26). The Rush close the season with five consecutive home games, all coming in the month of April.
