BACK-TO-BACK: RAPID CITY NAMED AS FINALIST FOR HOCKEYVILLE

(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes, are proud to announce that, for a second straight year, Rapid City, SD and Rushmore Hockey Association, has been named as a West Finalist for “Kraft Hockeyville USA”.

“We are very proud of Rushmore Hockey Association. To be selected as a national finalist two years in a row is something the whole community of Rapid City is very proud of,” said Rush General Manager, Joe Ferras. “The Rush organization and its players are proud of the growth of our sport throughout Rapid City over our eight years of operation. It would not be possible without the dedication and countless hours of the parents, the coaches, volunteers, and the players getting to play and learn a tremendous game. The whole Rush community is pulling for our very own RHA to be selected as ‘Hockeyville USA’.”

Hockey towns all over the United States have been nominated for a chance to receive $150,000 in renovations and upgrades for their local hockey rinks. The Rushmore Hockey Association, home of Rapid City’s Rushmore Thunder program and the “Thunderdome” where they play, has now been a top-10 national finalist for a second straight season. In addition to the money allocated to the rink, the city and facility will host an NHL preseason game. Six second-place prizes will be awarded valued $10,000 for the communities in that classification, followed by two first-place awards that are valued at $25,000. The runner-up will receive $75,000 in arena upgrades, while the winner will be crowned “Hockeyville, USA 2016”, receive $150,000 in upgrades, and will host an NHL preseason game.

Dr. Chris Dietrich, Medical Director of the Rush who also serves as a Rushmore Thunder Squirts and Mites coach said “It’s a great opportunity for Rushmore Hockey and it’s a testament to everyone that makes Rushmore Hockey work. It is a great recognition of what we are building with our program.”

Voting for the competition begins on April 12, 2016. Keep an eye out for how to vote for the Rushmore Thunder and the Thunderdome at www.krafthockeyville.com!
