(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes, are proud to announce that our community of Rapid City has advanced to the second round of Kraft Hockeyville USA!
“This is such an exciting time for youth hockey in Rapid City,” said Rush General Manager Joe Ferras. “Watching the Rangers – Penguins game today and to hear Jeremy Roenick announce that Rapid City is one of four finalists was incredible. I truly feel we deserve this honor. To see the growth of hockey the last eight years in Rapid City is something everyone should be very proud of. Congratulations to all the Rushmore Thunder parents and all the volunteers who have worked tirelessly to give our Rapid City youth the opportunity to play this great game.”
Earlier this month, it was announced that Rapid City, SD had been named as a top-10 national finalist for Kraft Hockeyville USA for a second consecutive year. Yet again, in the same amount of time, the Rushmore Hockey Association and the Rushmore Thunderdome has advanced to the “Final Four” in round two, and is now guaranteed $25,000 in arena upgrades.
“It’s an amazing opportunity to make it this far. Obviously, Kraft has recognized that we have some pretty amazing things going on out here with our building and our hockey program,” said Dr. Chris Dietrich, Rush Medical Director and Rushmore Thunder Squirts and Mites Coach. “There are so many unique things about our building: it’s independently managed, run by parents and volunteers, and I personally believe that uniqueness has allowed our sport to grow. It speaks to the dedication of so many people for so many years and is a culmination of their efforts.”
Voting for Round 2 begins on Tuesday, April 19, 2016. Should Rapid City advance, they will compete for the Kraft Hockeyville USA 2016 title in a final voting round, $150,000 in arena upgrades, and a chance to host an NHL preseason game.
