RUSH TO HOLD TRAINING CAMP SCRIMMAGE

(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, announced today that Head Coach Daniel Tetrault and Assistant Coach Nello Ferrara will hold the first-annual Red vs White Scrimmage during Training Camp. The game will be held at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4th. Doors will open at 6:05 p.m., and ALL FANS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND FREE OF CHARGE.

“This will be a unique game for all the fans and our coaching staff,” said Rush Head Coach, Daniel Tetrault. It will be free to the public as well, so we hope everyone will come out and support their team. We have such a short window in training camps in the ECHL, so this will be a good evaluation tool for Coach Nello and myself because we have so many players participating in camp. It also adds another dimension that practice cannot: it’s a real game situation for these players.”

In preparation for our 10th anniversary season of hockey, Coaches Tetrault and Ferrara will hold a scrimmage to evaluate their team heading into the regular season on October 4th, the third day of 2017 Training Camp. The festivities will begin with a draft on October 3rd, where, via Facebook Live, Coach Tetrault and Coach Ferrara will select the players for their respective teams. In order to allow the coaches to properly evaluate their players from the stands, the teams will be coached by Rush staff members: Mark Binetti, “Voice of the Rush”, and Head Equipment Manager Patrick Dolan will coach the team selected by Coach Tetrault, while the other team selected by Coach Ferrara will be coached by Head Athletic Trainer Cody Lindhorst and Training Camp Attendant Rick Kinstler.

“It will also be really fun to see the Rush staff competing against each other behind the benches,” Coach Tetrault added. “While this is serious for our players and the future of our roster for the regular season, we plan on having a great time and a ton of fun celebrating the start of a new season with all of our fans.”

The scrimmage will be played in two 25-minute halves of stoppage time with a flood in between the halves. The first half of play will feature 5-on-5 hockey from start to finish, while the second half will begin with 5-on-5 hockey until the first whistle with less than 10 minutes remaining. The game will then shift to 4-on-4 hockey, until the first whistle with less than 5 minutes remaining in the half, in which the game will then shift to 3-on-3 hockey until the end of regulation. At the conclusion of regulation, each player will participate in a shootout, with each goal counting towards the team’s total on the scoreboard. The winning team in the scrimmage will win a dinner provided by the losing team.
