(RAPID CITY, S.D.)—The Rapid City Rush (3-1-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Calgary Flames, conclude their season-opening five-game series against the Kansas City Mavericks (1-3-0). Puck drop is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. MDT on Sunday on Slumberland Furniture Ice at The Monument Ice Arena.
LAST TIME OUT
The Rapid City Rush suffered their first loss of the season, a 3-0 defeat to the Kansas City Mavericks on Slumberland Furniture Ice at The Monument Ice Arena on Saturday. Kansas City struck twice in the second period, then hit an empty net in the final minute of regulation. The Mavericks controlled the game from the start, outshooting the Rush 15-3 in the first period. Things leveled out in the back half of the game, but Kansas City outshot Rapid City, 31-20.
CAN’T WIN THEM ALL
After a historic 3-0 start, the first time the Rush have done so since 2013, Rapid City will now look to bounce back from their first defeat of the season. The Rush carry a 3-1 record for the first time since 2015, and have already clinched a series victory over the Mavericks.
PENALTY KILL SHINING EARLY
Rapid City’s penalty kill was a bright spot last night, posting two more successful kills and moving to 11-for-12 on the season. Each team has only scored one power play goal in the series, and both sides bring top-10 penalty kills into this afternoon’s game.
SAY’S STRONG START CONTINUES
Despite suffering the loss, Owen Say was brilliant again, improving his goals against average and save percentage. The 25-year-old now owns a 2.11 GAA and .929 save percentage. He has allowed two or fewer goals in three consecutive starts. Say has made the second-most saves in the ECHL and played the second-most minutes in the league. His three wins are behind only Florida’s Cam Johnson.
KEEPING THE SHOTS DOWN
Friday and Saturday’s games were nearly identical in terms of shot suppression: the Rush allowed 15 first-period shots, but cleaned up the defensive side of the puck and limited opportunities in the back half of the game. Rapid City has outshot Kansas City over the last two periods this weekend, and held the Mavericks to 31 shots or fewer in every meeting this season.
GOOD LUCK, SOUPY!
After a strong start to the season, Alex Campbell earned the first call-up of 2026-27 when he was recalled by the Calgary Wranglers on Saturday morning. Campbell scored the insurance goal in the Rush’s Friday victory and owns four points (3g+1a) and a plus-4 rating in three ECHL games. The Wranglers are on the road in Abbotsford this afternoon.

The Rush wrap up their first three-in-three of the season with the Halloween Spooktacular this afternoon. Fans are invited to skate with the team immediately following the game. This is the first of ten instances that Rapid City is playing three games in three days this season.
