RUSH PLAYERS TEAM WITH SANTA TO SPREAD CHRISTMAS CHEER

(RAPID CITY, SD) – Last month, the Rapid City Rush players wrapped presents for the students of Canyon Lake Elementary School. Today, the players, with the help of Santa Claus himself, handed those very presents they wrapped out to the children, helping spread Christmas cheer to the youth of Rapid City.

“For about five or six years now, Linda has ‘adopted’ Canyon Lake as her community school,” says Canyon Lake Elementary Principal Dave Swank. “Every year she has purchased gifts through Santa for every student here for Christmas.”

The event, with the help of the Rush, has been going on for three years running now. Don and Linda Ridstrom, Rush season ticket holders, have helped coordinate the event for almost six years now, and each year the event just gets bigger and bigger.

“This year posed an interesting challenge,” added Swank, “in that we have over 100 new students, but Linda has risen to the occasion and kept this arrangement going.”

“The first three years we did it ourselves”, Linda Ridstrom, coordinator of the event and Rush season ticket holder pointed out about the event. “Three years ago we had dinner with Scott [Wray]. He volunteered. He said ‘I’m sure I can get some of the boys.’ EVERYBODY came.”

“It’s a great event,” said Rush Captain Scott Wray. “It’s great to see someone in the community step up like this and give presents to these students. Words can’t describe how much this means to people.”

“It’s been amazing,” added Ridstrom of the event. “The kids idolize these players and it means so much to have the Rush players here. It makes it that much more special for their Christmas.”

As you can see from the reactions of all that were involved, the event was a huge success, and the Rush players thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the children, many of them who are loyal Rush fans. From all of us in the Rapid City Rush organization, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays.
