(RAPID CITY, S.D.)—The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Calgary Flames, announced Tuesday, in an Active Life Chiropractic roster adjustment, defenseman Jake Ratzlaff is returning to the Rush for the 2026-27 season.
Ratzlaff, 24, turned pro with the Rush last fall and became a consistent presence on the blue line for much of the season. As a rookie, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound right-shot defenseman recorded 15 points (3g+12a) in 50 games played. Ratzlaff led all skaters with a +13 rating.

Ratzlaff came to Rapid City having played two sports at the NCAA Division I level. The Rosemount, Minn. native started out as a linebacker at the University of Wisconsin before changing directions and pursuing hockey. Ratzlaff skated in the USHL while still enrolled at Wisconsin, then transferred to the University of St. Thomas for two seasons.
“Jake showed last year that he can excel in this league,” said Dave Smith, Rush Head Coach and General Manager. “He was a +13 and played important minutes as a big, strong, shutdown defenseman. As he continues to round out his skills, he will only add more positives to our team.”
