RUSH DROP HEARTBREAKERS TO MAVS IN OVERTIME

(RAPID CITY, S.D.)- The Rapid City Rush, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Calgary  Flames, earned a point in an overtime loss against Kansas City on Saturday night at The Monument, 4-3.

Carter Robertson, appearing in his 100th career ECHL game, scored just 63 seconds into the game to give Rapid City a 1-0 lead, but it wouldn’t hold. Justin Nachbaur tied the game halfway through the period and just 40 seconds later Theo Calvas gave K.C. the lead off a feed from Patrick Curry.

The second period would see the Rush roar back to life on Blake Bennett’s second goal in as many games 8:20 in the frame. The goal, assisted by Keltie Jeri-Leon, is the second time those two have connected this season.

Four minutes later, Keanu Yamamoto scored his first goal of the season to send Rapid City ahead 3-2, a lead they would hold at the second intermission.

For the second straight night, a third period powerplay goal from Kansas City would dash the Rush hopes. Cade Borchardt scored 4:45 into the third period to tie the game.

Matt Radomsky and Dillon Kelley traded saves through the final 15 minutes of regulation. Radomsky stopped 42 in the game while Kelley faced only 20 shots and stopped 17.

Despite their chances late, both teams earned a standings point, but Kansas City took the extra point when Jacob Hayhurst scored to end the game just 1:51 into overtime.

Rapid City falls to 2-1-1 on the season, and is now behind Idaho and Kansas City in the Mountain Division. The Mavericks remain perfect at 5-0-0 driven to the brink in three-straight one goal wins.

The Rush will face the Mavericks at Cable Dahmer arena on Tuesday night in Kansas City. Puck drop is schedule for 6:05 p.m. MT.
