LAST TIME OUT
In a nip-and-tuck game, the Rapid City Rush fell to the Kansas City Mavericks, 3-2, at Cable Dahmer Arena last night. Kansas City took three separate one-goal leads and scored two power play goals. Blake Bennett got the Rush on the board in the first period. Brett Davis scored in the second. Connor Murphy made 40 saves in the tough-luck loss.
THE CAP GETS 100
In his 96th ECHL game, Ryan Wagner picked up his 100th career point, the primary assist on Blake Bennett’s first-period goal. 80 of those 100 points have come with the Rush. It is only fitting that he reached the century mark by assisting on his best friend’s goal.
91-82-13
The Rush’s top line of Blake Bennett, Brett Davis, and Ryan Wagner had a successful debut. Playing together for the first time, the trio accounted for both Rush goals and combined for four points. Each of them finished +2 as well.
SEE YOU NEXT YEAR
Even though Kansas City is one of the closest teams to Rapid City, in a scheduling quirk, there are only four matchups scheduled between the divisional foes and none after Thanksgiving. This is the Rush’s only trip to Cable Dahmer Arena.
EUROPEAN CONNECTION
Dave Smith has reached across the pond to round out his talent pool for this season. Four Europeans are on the roster: Alexander Stensson (Sweden), Rasmus Ekström (Sweden), Arvils Bergmanis (Latvia), and Arsenii Sergeev (Russia). It is the first time in Rush history they have rostered four Europeans in a season.
BACK TO WHERE IT STARTED
Blake Bennett—who scored the first goal of the season—made last season’s season debut on January 17th, 2025 at Kansas City, scoring two goals then. From that day on, Bennett and Ryan Wagner were the ECHL’s best duo. Bennett led the league in goals (27), points (52), and shots on goal (176). Ryan Wagner led the league in assists (33) and was second in points (49) during that time, a total of 37 games.
NEW-LOOK HOCKEY OPS
Dave Smith’s hiring isn’t the only move the Rush organization made to their hockey operations staff over the summer. Peter Drikos earned a promotion to Associate Coach, Alex Werner was hired as the new Head Equipment Manager, and Austin Washkurak joins the Rush as the first Video Coach in team history.
