(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush is pleased to announce the acquisition of rookie forward Alex Szczechura. He comes to the Rush by virtue of a trade for future considerations with the Kalamazoo Wings, marking the second time both franchises have done business with each other this season.
“Alex is a very talented young forward who just completed a stellar four-year collegiate career at Ohio State, and was a teammate of current Rush defenseman Brandon Martell,” said Head coach and GM Joe Ferras. “Alex is a crafty forward with a high hockey IQ, and brings that youth and enthusiasm that is vital for success in the ECHL.”
Szczechura, 24, hails from Brantford, Ontario, the hometown of Coach Ferras, and enters his first season of professional hockey. Prior to playing professionally, the 5’9”, 185-pound forward spent four seasons in the NCAA playing with Ohio State University, three of which were played with current Rush defenseman Brandon Martell. While with the Buckeyes, Szczechura played 125 games with his alma mater, scoring 31 goals along with 35 assists for 66 points. Before his college days, he spent a season with the BCHL’s Penticton Vees, recording 63 points (30 G, 33A) in 55 games played.
