(RAPID CITY, SD) – In their first ever “Dr. Seuss Night”, the Rapid City Rush came out victorious in the fight. Defeating the Tulsa Oilers 6-2 was not an easy thing to do. In front of an almost sold out crowd, the Rush came out of the gates firing loud. Behind two goals each from Cody Ferriero and Daniel Barczuk, the Rush dominated this game of stick and puck. The win gives the Rush a tie for third in a Central Division playoff race that’s exciting, true to its word.
The Rush, for their seventh consecutive game, got their first goal from a common name. At 16:49 of the first, Jesse Schultz quenched his scoring thirst. Cody Ferriero sent the puck over through to Schultz for the one-timer by an oncoming rover. Schultz beat the Oilers goaltender, Kevin Carr, sending his laser under the bar.
In the second, Daniel Barczuk scored at nine-and-a-half and made the Oilers feel his wrath. He shot out of the penalty box and picked up the loose puck and sent it by Carr. He didn’t need much luck. Then Tulsa stormed back with a goal from Matt Larke, who somehow put the puck behind Johnny Griggs’ goal-line mark. At 10:04 of the second it made the score 2-1, but the game, and period, were far from done. Cody Ferriero made the Rush lead shine at 3-1 in the second period. The clock read 2:59.
The Rush held a 3-1 lead into the third, and came out firing again like a thundering herd. At 3:47, Ferriero%20scored a second and the crowd raved, cheered, and beckoned. He scored his goal on a power play, 4-on-3, which is a rare man-advantage as you can see. Schultz and Brisebois each got an assist, and yet the Rush power play refused to resist. On another man-advantage at 6:44, Brisebois lifted the Rush lead to 5 from 4. The count now stood at 5-1, but Tulsa was not done. At 10:51 it was Jeff Jubinville beating Griggs on a rebound to send his bench into a thrill. Daniel Barczuk made it 6-2 with his second of the night, scoring 36 seconds later. It was the final goal of the night. There was a fight towards the end for everyone to watch, as Kevin Harvey and Nathan Lutz kicked it up a notch. However, when the clock showed three zeroes the Rush emerged victorious, 6-2 as the heroes.
Johnny Griggs got the win, stopping 21 shots, and was very clutch for his team in key spots. On the season he earned win number 10, as he played in a game for the 20th time again (10-5-2).
The Rush take to the road to play the Wichita Thunder, and hope that their playoff dreams don’t take a blunder. The game is scheduled for March the 3rd, and will be on 100.3 The FOX so you can hear the play-by-play, each word. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:05, MST that is when the game goes live.
