(RAPID CITY, SD) – The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, announced that the team has acquired forward Alex Guptill from the Atlanta Gladiators in exchange for the playing rights of forward Lindsay Sparks.
Guptill comes to the Rush after playing for four different ECHL teams last season. The 6’3”, 190-pound forward started the 2016-17 campaign with the Manchester Monarchs, scoring 3 goals and 3 assists for 6 points in 8 games before adding an additional goal and assist in 10 games with the Allen Americans. From there, Guptill headed to the Indy Fuel, registering 14 points (8g-6ast) in 22 games before finishing the season in Atlanta, where he notched his final 7 points of the season with a goal and 6 assists in 20 games. Overall, Guptill compiled 13 goals, 16 assists, and 29 points in 60 games.
A native of Burlington, Ontario, Guptill, begins his fourth season as a professional hockey player. His career has taken him through the AHL with the Texas Stars, Binghamton Senators, and Rochester Americans, and the ECHL with the Monarchs, Fuel, Americans, Gladiators, and former Evansville IceMen. In total, Guptill has played in 187 games, and tabulated 39 goals, 42 assists, and 81 points. Prior to turning professionally, Guptill played college hockey with the University of Michigan Wolverines and notched 94 points (44 g-50ast) in 110 games, and was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the 2010 NHL Draft (3rd Rd-#77).
