LAST TIME OUT: Charles Martin scored the go-ahead goal with 1:27 to play in the third period and the Rush went on to beat the Wichita Thunder 2-1 on Saturday night at The Monument Ice Arena. Keanu Yamamoto had a goal and an assist and Adam Carlson made 22 saves on 23 shots.
ONE TO REMEMBER: Charles Martin’s game-winning goal on Saturday night was his first professional goal, which came in his fifth pro game. The defenseman was signed on February 28 out of the University of Wisconsin-Superior. During his senior season he had three goals and 15 assists in 28 games played.
OILERS INCOMING: Tulsa arrives in Rapid City for the final three games of the season series between the Rush and Oilers. Rapid City is 7-3-1-0 against Tulsa this season including a 2-1-0-0 mark at home. The Oilers have lost four straight games and sit in last place in the Mountain Division with 46 points.
REINFORCEMENTS: The Rush got a boost on their roster when Quinn Wichers was returned from the AHL’s San Diego Gulls on Thursday. Wichers had been with San Diego since February 10 and appeared in 10 games during his time with the Gulls. The second-year defenseman has four assists over 35 games with Rapid City.
BETWEEN THE PIPES: Adam Carlson faced 23 shots and made 22 saves in Rapid City’s win on Friday night. In his last seven appearances, Carlson is 4-2-0-0 with a 2.43 goals against average and a .927 save percentage. Since the calendar flipped to 2023, Carlson is 9-6-0-0 with a 2.81 GAA and a .912 save percentage.
THE REST OF THE WAY: Rapid City has 15 games remaining on its scheduled and currently sits six points out of a playoff spot. Nine of the remaining games are at home with six on the road. Entering play on Friday, second place and sixth place are separated by just seven points. The Rush have three games remaining against Tulsa, three against Allen, three against the Fort Wayne Komets, two against Wichita and one against Kansas City.
ODDS AND ENDS: The ECHL’s trade deadline was on Thursday. Rapid City did not make any trades at the deadline...in six appearances against the Oilers, Daniil Chechelev is 4-0-1-0 with a 2.87 goals against average and a .919 save percentage...Alex Aleardi has seven goals and nine assists in 11 games against Tulsa. He has at least one point in nine of his 11 games against the Oilers...Max Golod was leading the Oilers with 11 points in nine games against Rapid City but he is no longer on Tulsa’s roster. Golod, who was on an NHL contract with the Anaheim Ducks, was traded to Chicago earlier this month.
