(TULSA, Okla.)—The Rush scored three times on the power play, but fell short to the Tulsa Oilers, 5-3, at the BOK Center on Saturday.
After playing a tight game—but not trailing—on Thursday, Rapid City played catch-up while never trailing by more than two tonight.
Deni Goure answered Tulsa’s game-opening goal with a deflection late in the first period. David Gagnon scored off a faceoff at the tail end of a second-period power play. Tulsa led, 3-2, entering the third period.
The game’s turning point came early in the third. Luke Mylymok hit the inside of the post on a close-range shot, one of two times the Rush did so in the game. Less than a minute later, Tulsa dumped the puck down the ice and benefitted from a lucky bounce. The puck caromed untruly off the glass to the front of the net, leading to a wide-open goal with Matt Radomsky having gone out of the net.
Rapid City earned two 6-on-4 power plays in the final four minutes of the game, and scored on a Blake Bennett one-timer with 34 seconds remaining, his 26th goal of the season in his 30th game. The Rush could not come up with the equalizer, though, and Tulsa put the game away with an empty-netter.
It is the Rush’s fourth time scoring three power play goals and the game. It is the third time they have done so in the last five weeks.
Matt Radomsky made 32 saves on 36 shots. Vyacheslav Buteyets denied 37 in the win for Tulsa.
The Rush and Oilers conclude their season-series tomorrow afternoon in Tulsa.
Next game: Sunday, March 30 at Tulsa. 3:05 p.m. CDT puck drop from the BOK Center.
