GAME NOTES: March 1, 2026 – Rush at Tulsa Oilers

(TULSA, Okla.)—The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Calgary Flames, look to ring in March by avoiding a series sweep after two tough results against the Tulsa Oilers. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. MST on Sunday at the BOK Center.

WATCHLISTEN

LAST TIME OUT
The Rapid City Rush saw a three-goal lead slip away and the Tulsa Oilers (16-29-5) rallied for a 7-5 victory at the BOK Center on Saturday. The Rush came out firing to start the game. Quinn Olson buried a rebound four minutes in, then Chaz Smedsrud and Blake Bennett widened the lead to 3-0 with goals two minutes apart. Simon Mack sniped home his first professional goal from the right point early in the second period, restoring a 4-2 Rush advantage. Things would turn from there. Tulsa’s Andrei Bakanov completed a hat trick with a game-tying power play goal late in the second period. The 4-4 deadlock remained for the next 20 minutes. With under three minutes remaining, Maurizio Colella had a breakaway chance denied five-hole by Vyacheslav Buteyets. Tulsa retrieved the puck and German Yavas scored on the other end, delivering the Oilers their first lead of the night. Tulsa hit two empty netters to finish it off. Seth Fyten added one back, but it was too little, too late.

ANOTHER HOT START
For the second straight night, the Rush were decisively the better team in the first period. This time, they turned their chances into goals, winning the period 3-1 and outshooting Tulsa, 16-5. In the last three first periods, Rapid City has led in shots 46-14. Since the start of the last homestand, the first-period goal differential is 12-3 for the Rush.

SAVE THAT PUCK
Simon Mack scored his first professional goal in the second period last night for his second point of the game. The rookie from Penn State was reassigned to the Rush by Calgary on Thursday and has totaled five points in six ECHL games this season.

20 FOR BENNY
Blake Bennett just keeps on scoring. Bennett’s first-period power play goal gave him 20 goals for the season. He has now reached the 20-goal mark in all three years with the Rush, including his truncated 2024-25 season. Bennett has scored six goals in the last seven games.

SMEDS FOR THREE
Chaz Smedsrud factored on each of the three first-period goals—scoring one and assisting on the other two—for his first three-point performance of his career. Smedsrud has seven points over his last six games as he continues to click offensively.

ANOTHER CROOKED NUMBER
Quinn Olson had another day at the office last night: a casual two-point game. Olson finishes February with five multi-point performances. He has a point in seven of the last eight games, totaling 12 points (5g+7a).
